New in 2013: Introduction of Interventional Techniques using Phantoms

When you return home from the course you can charge for the new interventional procedures you have learnt and 15 of these cases will pay for the Penang registration fee . Now its time to learn a new skill to help patients and increase your income substantially when you can offer the therapeutic skills as well as diagnostic skills. In March 2013 at both the Radiologists Course March 20-23rd and March 24th and 25th , there will be two days of the opportunity to learn how to do the interventional techniques on phantoms and various needles .

Prof George and faculty will teach the current methods and titrations of substances that they are using for the following :

1. Supraspinatus tendinosis including approach to calcific tendinosis and small tears

2. Patella tendinosis including approach to calcific tendinosis and small tears

3 . Achilles tendinosis including approach to calcific tendinosis and small tears

4. Muscle tears Grade 2 - use of sonographic visible needles for accurate placement of PRP and use of

other cheaper agents.

5. Tenosynovitis and tendinosis of wrist and ankle tendons.

6. Joint injection - rotator cuff interval synovitis and adhesive capsulitis.

So why should you consider coming in 2013 and what is the differences in 2013 course compared to previous courses

1. New Interventional Section with chance to practice technique on phantoms.

2. Prof George using his own video techniques in close up to show surface landmarks

3. Completely new MRI video cases for homework and cases shown to bring home the points in the lectures in 512 resolution .

4. Mayo Professor teaching the basic MRI anatomy using his own set of special powerpoints prepared for the 2013 course . Prof George will continue to teach the pearls , tricks and principles of how to make accurate MRI interpretation and each day one of the faculty will share MRI and powerpoint cases alternately with Prof George to bring home the points after the lectures. This is not taught in the books and is the highlight of the conference . Learn the rising sun technique for carpal tunnel , the Kelantan edge technique, the ONE TOUCH technique, the Rule of 3 in MRI knee etc etc. These are not in the books. ALSO REMEMBER , Prof George experience is in ASIAN patients and WESTERN teachers dont teach the difference between Asians and Caucasians . The double bowtie meniscus sign does not apply to most Asians, the femoro tibial displacment sign measurements differ etc etc. These are based on research studies done on Asians relevant to Asians. You will be making the wrong diagnosis if you use Western parameters. Also we use MRI sequences which are different protocols and yet highly accurate and still take only 15 minutes to complete a set of Knee MRI with 95% accuracy so you can do more patients in 1 day.

5. Non Breakfast rate which is good for those who dont wont to pay for the buffet breakfast and still get coffee and snacks at 745am in the conference room . We are back to the Feringghi Room for the conference for cosy and close room and much bigger screen to ensure you see all the images and videos clearly .

6. Lincoln Gillam from Australia who is expert at Hands on and does hundreds of MSK ultrasound cases every year and interventional techniques has confirmed he is definitely coming as his practice issues have been settled. ( Last year 2 of his radiologists left the practice early 2012 with sudden notice and he could not make it last moment ) but even then we did manage to get Dr James Linklater to replace him

7. Dr Daniel Makes has the most amazing collection of real time ultrasound videos of pathology of the different joints using ultrasound so you get to see actual video of pathology in MSK ultrasound.

7.Dr Nazrila Hairiana is MSK radiologist Head in Ministry of Health and trained in Canberra performing scans on Australian National athletes from the Australian Institute of Sports .

8. Singapore radiologist who is also MSK expertand excellent teacher will come on board if we have a ratio of more than 1 MSK radiologist to 6 participants to ensure more individiual attention.

9. Royal College of Radiologists London has accredited the Radiologists meeting from March 20-23rd 2013 for 32 CPD Category 1 points which is reciprocal in many countries and confirmed to be accepted by Dubai Health Authority by Dr Amina.

Please note we have no booth sponsors so most of the expenses are paid with your registration fee which covers expensive charges for rooms for speakers , five star conference meals including BBQ with lamb etc on Friday Lunchtime (long lunch due to Muslim Prayer Time) . This is why the registrations are more expensive than usual to pay for all the speaker airfares, seaview rooms , hourly pay for lectures , ground travel and loss of income of their private practice .

So please dont quibble about the registration fee being high as the cost is really worthwhile for all that is provided is at the highest quality .

8.30 am	Lecture: Intensive musculoskeletal USS of tendon pathology followed by musculoskeletal MRI and ultrasound of the knee with gross anatomy correlation - Part One.
10.30 am	Tea break. Collection of receipts original receipts of payments and original confirmation letter of participation.
11.00 am	Continuation of MSK MRI and USS of knee - Part Two. Correlation with MRI is stressed in the knee lectures
1.00 pm	Buffet lunch.
2.00 pm	Demonstration of normal knee position and anatomy via video by Prof George. Hands-on ultrasound, abnormal USS videos and static images of pathology to correlate normal and abnormal knee pathology .

4.30 pm – 6.00 pm	Review of the PowerPoint quiz on abnormal knee cases (found in the course booklet) and additional MRI videos of abnormal cases. 2.00 pm	Hands-on shoulder ultrasound with focus on surface anatomy and knobology.
4.15 pm	Tea break
4.30 pm – 6.00 pm	Review of the PowerPoint quiz on abnormal shoulder cases and additional abnormal MRI videos of cases. Crossover of MRI and ultrasound cases for better understanding of the role of MRI and ultrasound in the shoulder.At least 20 MRI videos showing 90% of common pathology you should not miss and then homework to test what you have learnt. HOMEWORK : 10 MRI video shoulder cases.

22rd March 2013 • Friday• Day Three

9.30am	Lecture: Intensive musculoskeletal MRI and USS of the ankle with gross anatomy. More emphasis on ultrasound of the ligaments and tendons as far superior visualisation on ultrasound than MRI including intrasubstance changes.MRI for chondral and subchondral changes, meniscoid lesions etc. Positioning and normal anatomy via video ultrasound and MRI videos of normal and abnormal ankle cases.
10.30 am	Tea break
11.00 am	Hands-on ankle ultrasound surface anatomy and knobology.
12.15pm	Muslim prayers and lunch break - Piping hot BBQ lamb etc made on the spot.
2.15 pm	Lecture: Intensive musculoskeletal MRI and USS of the elbow and wrist with gross anatomy. Positioning and normal anatomy via video ultrasound.
3.00 pm	PowerPoint quiz on the elbow and wrist.
4.00 pm	Tea break
4.30 pm – 6.00 pm	Hands-on elbow and wrist practice with focus on normal surface anatomy and knobology. HOMEWORK : 10 MRI video ankle and wrist cases.

23rd March 2013 • Saturday• Day Four
8.00 am	Review of the homework (ankle and wrist MRI cases powerpoint quiz highlighting pearls and tips.
10.30am	Tea break
11.00am	Lecture: MSK ultrasound of rheumatoid small joint synovitis, carpal tunnel and muscle injury grading.
1.00 pm	Lunch break
2.00 pm	Hands-on practice for carpal tunnel ultrasound, identification of common hamstring and calf muscle injuries and identification of landmarks for MCP and PIP joint assessment of synovitis.
3.30 pm	MRI of the hip joint. Tea is available during the lecture.
4.30 pm	Post-course self assessment. Hands-on ultrasound final practical session for last round teaching.
5.45 pm	Close of meeting with final remarks.

BASIC AND INTERMEDIATE (SLIGHT ADVANCED) EULAR REQUIREMENT MET IN PENANG PHYSICIANS COURSE

The International Basic Musculoskeletal Ultrasound and Basic MRI anatomy course ( with interventional joint techniques) meets the criteria for basic and intermediate level and also some of the content for advanced course

This makes the course one of the most worthwhile courses for a rheumatologist to attend to get a solid grounding in joint ultrasound covering basic joint ligament and tendon pathology , synovitis detection , cartilage abnormality detection and basic interventional techniques

So to all Rheumatologists you can achieve certification as listed above in a certificate which is shows accreditation by the Malaysian Medical Council for 10 CME points which should be reciprocal in most countries by your medical councils.
